Dr. Harris was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. As a child, she had a strong interest in science; however, by the time she reached college, her focus was primarily on medicine and infectious disease research. After graduation, she worked in a pathology research lab and soon decided that medicine would be her career path.
In 1994, she was accepted into Indiana University School of Medicine. During medical school, she soon realized that she enjoyed treating adults and the inner workings of chronic disease. She decided to pursue training in Internal Medicine and was later matched at Emory University’s Internal Medicine training program. In 2001 she completed her training and started pursuing her career as a Primary Care Internist and Hospital Medicine physician.
By 2014, Dr. Harris became frustrated with the traditional insurance payor system and treating patients like a reimbursement instead of a true person with health needs and concerns. Therefore, she decided to open a direct primary care membership practice in Tyrone, GA. This huge change in the way she practiced allowed her to spend more time with patients and establish better relationships. As she started to spend more time with patients, she had more time to try to figure out the root causes of their chronic illness. This ultimately led her to the practice of functional medicine.
Dr. Harris currently lives in the south Atlanta area along with her husband and blended family of 4 children. Her greatest enjoyment is spending quality time with her family and a good nap.
“For me to be able to impact somebody that way – that all their lives, they have had this issue and then all of a sudden, they’re like, better. Are you gonna ask for anything better than that?” — Dr. Erinn Harris
